Recreation Services

Recreation Services, one of the largest department in the City, provides wholesome family and individual leisure and recreation programs and services to residents.  These services are provided through the City’s well-maintained and operated parks system and recreation programs. The RECREATOR  is a tri-annual publication that informs residents about current programs and classes that are being offered.  It also lists City parks and recreational sites and the amenities offered at each.

The Parks Division operates, maintains and provides programming in over 40 parks, with provisions for use of facilities through inter-agency inter-local agreements through the Greater Boca Raton Beach & Park District, the School Board of Palm Beach County, Florida Atlantic University, and Palm Beach County. In addition to the Parks Division maintaining this vast park system, they are also responsible for the operation and maintenance of a cemetery, 2 golf courses and roadway beautification.  In addition, Parks Division provides for various sensitive land sites and educational programming at the Gumbo Limbo Nature Center, including an extensive sea turtle program.

The Recreation Division provides programming for the community through three community centers, two swim centers, three oceanfront parks, athletics, skate park & shuffleboard courts, tennis facilities, summer camps, the Science Explorium, Willow Theatre, and the Mizner Park Amphitheater.

The Library (Downtown and Spanish River locations), a division of Recreation Services, is an active educational, recreational, and cultural center offering a collection of over 275,000 items including books, magazines, newspapers, compact discs, DVDs, audiobooks, CD-ROMS, games, and much more. Additional services include reference databases, inter-library loans, diverse programs for children, literacy tutoring, Internet computers, and wireless Internet access. The Spanish River Library and Community Center offers additional services including a café and a gift shop, plus a number of rooms and facilities, both inside and outside, for meetings and events. A borrower's card may be obtained free of charge upon proof of residency in the City of Boca Raton.
